Welcome to the History of Medicine
We are a unit within the Faculty of Medicine led by Dr. Edward Shorter, Jason A. Hannah Professor in the History of Medicine at the University of Toronto. Our two objectives within the Faculty are:
1. To act as a resource for preserving and celebrating Toronto's medical heritage.
2. Teaching and research focused on the evolution and current developments in medicine and health care.
A number of courses focusing on the History of Medicine are offered at the undergraduate and graduate levels through the Faculty of Arts and Science and the Institute for the History and Philosophy of Science and Technology. Dr. Shorter is also available to act as a supervisor for independent studies and graduate research. More information >>
The Health Narratives Research Group (HeNReG) allows researchers the opportunity to take the personally relevant stories that initiated their commitment to health care and develop them into narratives with a particular point of view. The process includes both personal reflection and the willingness to share one’s story and gain additional insights from the rest of the group.
The HeNReG meets weekly on Wednesdays between the first week in October and the last week in April. Participants can join anytime. More Information >>
